It was originally established in 2002 after acquiring the assets of moribund Calabar Cement Company (CalCemCo), a Greenfield cement manufacturing plant was constructed at Mfamosing, 40km north-east of Calabar, Cross River State.

Lafarge is present in Nigeria through the acquisition of Blue Circle in 2001. The Group has three cement plants with a total capacity 3,5 MT per year, located in Shagamu and Ewekoro in the region of Lagos and Ashak in the north. Lafarge employs about 2000 people.
